Butterfly of Stone Necklace
This piece was created for an exhibition called "Aware" which focused on the problem of human trafficking in the Hampton Roads, VA area.
Stone, be it agate, gemstones, or even pebbles, is usually too heavy to float or fly. These slabs of agate have become part of a butterfly, allowing them freedom that they didn’t have before. As the human trafficking epidemic comes to light, may those individuals held down and captured also experience freedom.
The butterfly contains four slabs of different agate, each surrounded by metallic gold square beads, matte green, cream and black seed beads, then surrounded by soutache in cream and green, backed with black leather. The chain is comprised of black and green agate, interspersed with matte brass cubes. Toggle clasp.
Measures 14" long x 6" wide x .5" thick.
